Gallery LVS will hold Jun Won Kun's solo exhibition <New Perspective> in May. It took 3 years to be back in a solo exhibition with the upgrades with the understated monochromatic painting shown in his previous works has been interpreted from a new perspective. It has developed a new story of ‘Line’, in the process of combining various colors into becoming one with a unique identity.

Jun Won Kun’s works have captured the infinite colors and depth of lights caused by overlapped layers. In <Color Beyond Color>, which was the title of his solo exhibition in 2019, a series of dilute acrylic layers were shown to the audience as a combination of countless lights, but not only one color. This upcoming solo exhibition in 2022 is titled <New Perspective>. A clear line was placed on top of the existing flatwork. His work was created through the process of applying thinly diluted acrylic paints, wiping them off, and then re-applying them, showing a deep cross-section of the canvas in which dots, lines, and sides harmonize without boundaries as if one were looking at a dispersion of light. In this solo exhibition, the lines of various shapes in Jun Won Kun's work, which look back at with a new perspective, are lined with materiality that embodies ambiguous boundaries.

On the side of the canvas, where the repeated process of applying and erasing flowing acrylic paint more than 20 times is completely melted, traces of the paint made over a long period of time are left like stripes. One can witness the process of how it became the color before it was presented to the viewers. The side of the canvas is a symbolic space in Jun Won Kun's world of art, where you can see the history of the process and the thoughts that were put into the canvas. This is to share the artist's process with the viewers so they could see what color has been expanded and restrained over time.

All colors of the work are created through the process of overlapping and are considered unique colors with their own identities. The collection of lines of various shapes on top of it is a formative language that organically connects faces and lines, and a rhetorical device that leads the artist to a deeper conversation in the work like words on a piece of paper.

Jun Won Kun is a Korean artist based in Germany since the 1990s and held his sixth solo exhibition at Gallery LVS. He has held solo exhibitions in various cities around the world, including Seoul, Berlin, Osaka, and more.
