Yasuda Taizo
(b.1972, Japan)
Yasuda Taizo is a renowned contemporary Japanese glass artist, celebrated for his mastery of hot glass and blowing techniques in glassmaking. The hot glass method, which involves heating glass to over 1,000 degrees Celsius, allows Yasuda to manipulate the fluidity of the material into organic, natural forms. Through the blowing technique, he crafts elegant curves and flowing shapes by inflating molten glass with air.
Yasuda also employs the fusing technique, where he merges variously colored glass pieces at high temperatures to create layered hues and intricate patterns. He primarily works with soda-lime glass, adjusting the color palette by incorporating metal oxides, resulting in glass pieces with rich tonal depth. His work emphasizes the interplay between light and glass, offering viewers a dynamic experience of shifting light and shadow. Inspired by the forms and colors of nature, Yasuda’s art explores the philosophical relationship between humanity and the natural world.
